Sporting Kansas City sign midfielder Danny Flores via waivers

Sporting Kansas City have signed midfielder Danny Flores on a one-year deal via waivers.

The 20-year-old’s deal keeps him at Children’s Mercy Park through the 2023 MLS season, with SKC holding options to extend through 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Flores – a former United States youth international – now resumes his professional career following a two-year college spell with Virginia Tech. During his time there, he hit five goals and five assists in 33 appearances, earning a place on the ACC All-Freshman team in 2021.

However, Flores does have prior professional experience, representing Philadelphia Union II and Oakland Roots in 32 combined USL Championship games between 2019 and 2021 having previously spent time in the Union’s famed youth system.

Sporting Kansas City missed out on the MLS Cup Playoffs last year and begin the new season away at the Portland Timbers on February 25.
