NYSC member says he funded himself in school with proceeds from yahoo

The suspect who hailed from Ilesa in the Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State, was arrested at Ogele, Eyenkorin, in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State following a credible intelligence report.

In a statement in which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed Adetoyese’s arrest, the suspect was said to have confessed that the proceeds he made from cybercrime saw him through school.

Adetoyese, 28, according to the anti-graft agency, also said aside from the fact that he sponsored himself to school with the proceeds, he was able to as well build himself a house.

In the course of investigation, Adetoyese revealed that he ventured into Yahoo Yahoo in 2016 and had, among other things, built a house and sponsored himself in school with the proceeds of the illegal activities,” the EFCC added.

In a related development, the EFCC also said it now has two other cyber fraud suspects in its custody.

The suspects, Muhammed Soliu and Olayiwola Saheed, were nabbed at different locations in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

Upon interrogation, Muhammed, 25, confessed that he joined Yahoo-Yahoo in 2020 and specialised in dating/love scam. According to him, he had bought a Toyota Camry worth N2.7m and built a house with the proceeds of the illegal activities.

“In the same token, Olayiwola, 30, who claimed to be a ‘loader’ in the Yahoo-Yahoo business, confessed to have bought a Toyota Camry worth over N2m with the proceeds of the alleged crime,” the statement added.

All the suspects are, however, expected to appear in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
