Novak Djokovic Reflects On His Deportation Ahead Of Australia Open

The deportation from Australia, according to Novak Djokovic, will linger in his memory for life.

Novak Djokovic, 35, was detained and expelled from the country in January after attempting to enter the country to compete in the Australian Open. The country deported him due to his Covid-19 vaccination status.

However, he overturned a three-year restriction on applying for a visa in November and will take part in the Australian Open in 2023.

“You can’t forget those events,” Novak Djokovic said.

“It’s one of these things that stick with you, it stays with you for I guess the rest of your life.

“It was something that I’ve never experienced before, and hopefully never again.”

The Tennis icon admitted: “It is a valuable life experience for me. I have to move on. Coming back to Australia speaks to how I feel about this country, and how I feel about playing here.

“I was really hoping that I’m going to have my permission back to get back into Australia and play here because it’s a country where I’ve had tremendous success in my career.”

Nine Australian Open titles belong to the 21-time grand slam champion, Novak Djokovic.

On January 9, the Australian Open qualifier will begin. The first round will kick off on January 16.
