Nollywood Actor, Jim Iyke Confers With Chieftaincy Title In Ghana

The Igbo community and royalty in Ghana have conferred a chieftaincy title on Nollywood actor, James Ikechukwu Esomugha, better known as Jim Iyke.

Naija News understands that the 45-year-old actor now has the title of Ohadike 1 of Ndigbo.

Jim Iyke according to reports, received the chieftaincy title on Sunday, September 18, 2022. The coronation reportedly took place alongside the occasion of the tenth Yam Festival in the African country.

The actor was reportedly given the title by Her Royal Highness, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana, Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu.

According to Ihenetu, Jim Iyke was recognised for his achievements and contributions to the African entertainment industry and the Igbo people.

The actor has now joined his colleagues in the entertainment industry, the likes of music star D’banj, actor Alex Ekubo and reality TV star, Teddy A, to hold a chieftaincy title.

Three months ago, Jim Iyke reacted to the rumours making the rounds that he has dumped Christianity for Islam.

Naija News recalls that the actor’s reaction came after a Twitter user shared a photo of him wearing a Jalamia and holding a Muslim prayer bead referred to as Tasbih.

The netizen tweeted: “I heard that the popular Nollywood actor ‘Jim Iyke’ has revert to Islam. Alhamdulillah!! Welcome to ISLAM, religion of peace. We welcome you wholeheartedly”

Reacting, however, to the post which had generated some reactions on social media, Jim Iyke in a video shared on his Instagram page faulted the claims.

The actor said he usually does not pay attention to some aimless rumours but there are certain lines that should not be crossed. Jim Iyke said the photos making the round is from a movie he acted in Ghana about religious fanatics and someone took the pictures.

The actor added that he respects all religions but has no intention to convert his faith and that the rumours should be laid to rest.
