NDLEA Nab Drug Lord, 21 Other Suspects In Rivers

Rivers State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the arrest of a suspected drug lord, Damion Onuoha.

The agency’s Commander in Rivers, Ahmed Mamuda, revealed in a communique on Tuesday, that the command’s operatives arrested the suspect during a raid at Elele Alimini town in Emuoha Local Government Area of the state.

According to Mamuda, the operatives arrested the 40-year-old suspect with 1.6 kg of white and brown Methamphetamine on Monday afternoon, while they also recovered the sum of N650,700 from him during the raid.

The statement, which was signed by the spokesman for the state command, Emmanuel Ogbumgbada, and made available to reports in Port Harcourt, also established that the agency arrested 21 other suspects, including two females.

On Onuoha’s account, the agency said the suspect is currently in the command’s detention facility and is the subject of an investigation.

The statement revealed further that in October 2022, the command successfully convicted 21 drug dealers at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt. The convicts, Naija News understands, are still serving various jail terms at the Correctional Service Centre in Port Harcourt.

According to the statement, the suspects include 19 males and two females who were nabbed with a total seizure of 424.72kg of illicit drugs such as cocaine, heroin, cannabis Sativa, and methamphetamine, also known as ‘Mkpurunmiri.’

“Others are psychotropic substances such as tramadol and swinol. The State Commander, Ahmed Mamuda, enjoins the people 0f Rivers to be on the lookout for clandestine laboratories where methamphetamine production may be taking place and urges urgent action so that, together, we can root out the drug menace from our society,” Mamuda noted in the statement.
