A man identified as Agbolade Agbolahan has been remanded by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State for allegedly hacking the Facebook account of the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan.
The suspect was also accused of using the account of the monarch to defraud a professor of the sum of N500,000.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, on Thursday, ordered Agbolahan to be remanded in detention after his arraignment before the court.
Agbolahan pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The defendant is facing two counts bordering on hacking and obtaining by false pretences.
According to the police prosecutor, Slyvester Azubuike, Agbolahan hacked the Facebook account of the monarch sometime in April 2022.
The prosecutor further stated that the defendant used the Facebook account of the monarch to defraud a professor, Adesoji Adelaja, of the sum of N500,000.
Azubuike noted that the offences are contrary to sections 22(2)(b)(ii) and 22(3) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.
The court ordered Agbolahan to be remanded in prison, following his plea of not guilty.
The judge adjourned the case for a hearing of the bail application and ordered the remand of the defendant.
