The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced the shutting down down of the popularly Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday (tomorrow).
Naija News reports that the state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederick Oladeinde, in a statement on Saturday, said the close down was for repair of some identified failed/peeled asphaltic sections of the bridge to hold.
According to him, traffic diversion plans for the rehabilitation process which is slated to hold between 9 am and 4 pm has been out in place.
It was gathered that the rehabilitation would be done by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation tomorrow.
The Lagos transportation commissioner advanced that traffic would be diverted from one lane to another lane at the identified failed asphaltic sections on the bridge.
Oladeinde explained that it was necessary to attend to the tailbacks along the bridge at the peak periods as a result of the failed sections.
He therefore assured residents of the state that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be “fully” on the ground to direct traffic to ameliorate the inconveniences, while appealing to motorists in the state to be calm and patient as the measures taken are targeted at providing quality and safe road infrastructure for everyone.
