Klopp Compares Darwin Nunez To Lewandowski

Darwin Nunez has wasted several goalscoring opportunities for Liverpool so far, according to manager Jurgen Klopp, who compared his current form to Robert Lewandowski’s early Borussia Dortmund career.

The 23-year-old Darwin Nunez has nine goals this season but has also missed several excellent chances which have made him one of the most criticized footballers in recent times.

When Polish iconic striker Lewandowski joined the German club Dortmund from Lech Poznan in 2010, according to Klopp, he was in a similar uneven condition.

Coach Jurgen Klopp and young Robert Lewandowski during their days together at Borussia Dortmund.

“There are a lot of similarities, to be honest,” Klopp said.

“I think Lewy would tell the same story. We had shooting sessions where he didn’t finish off one. We had bets all the time for 10 euros – ‘if you score more than 10 times, I will pay you 10; if you don’t, you have to pay me’. My pocket was full of money!

“It’s all about staying calm. When you see the potential, stay calm.”

Robert Lewandowski who is currently at FC Barcelona has now scored a whopping 527 career goals and provided 139 assists in 707 games in all competitions so far in his career. He is regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time.

Darwin Nunez, who is just 23 years old, has scored 77 career goals and provided 24 assists in 159 games in all competitions.

While at Benfica, Nunez scored 48 goals and provided 16 assists in 85 games in all competitions. This performance lured Liverpool to pay a whopping €80 million for his services last summer. Unfortunately, he has not been able to live up to expectations so far.
