Jigawa PDP Debunks Report Of 1,500 Defectors, Says It’s An Imagination

The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has debunked media reports making rounds online about the defection of over 1,500 of its members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports the party had described the defection report as short of imagination of those behind the stage, alleging that it’s a false report cooked by the camp of the ruling party in the state.

The PDP’s reaction follows reports circulating on Tuesday that over 1,500 of its members in the state had decamped to the ruling APC because of its good policies.

The defectors were said to have come from illirowa village, and it was alleged that the state assembly member representing Birnin Kudu constituency Siraja Muhammad had received them.

Muhammad was quoted to have said, “Ilirowa village is one of the strongholds of the PDP and with this development, I am sure there will be no more PDP in the area.”

However, the Jigawa PDP Secretary, Isa Bello Gwadayi, described the rumoured defection of its members as falsehood being perpetrated by those who have been caught by the wind of change that would soon blow in the state.

Gwadayi, also disclosed that there is no village or community known as illirowa, where the so-called detectors claimed to have come from in the Buji local government area of the state and that he is an indigene of the place and also lives there.

He said: “As an indigene of Buji Local Government Area and who resides in the Local Government Area, there is no village with the name Illirowa in the area.

“Secondly, what is the APC member representing Buji at the Jigawa State House of Assembly doing that will warrant another member representing another local government (Birnin Kudu) who did not come but sent someone to represent him to receive decampees?

“Thirdly, no APC local government party chairman of Buji and party elders in attendance.”
