EPL: You’re setting yourself up over decision on Ronaldo, two others – Owen tells Solskjaer

Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has insisted that manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is setting himself up for a problem at Old Trafford after he benched Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and Jandon Sancho during the Red Devils’ Premier League 1-1 draw with Everton over the weekend.

Solskjaer raised some eyebrows with his team selection against Everton at Old Trafford as he opted to start Ronaldo, Pogba and Sancho on the bench during the encounter.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Andros Townsend ensured both Man United and Everton shared a point each.

“He is setting himself up for a problem, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, because if you are going to rest so many big-hitters, then all of a sudden you are going to be leaving one or two players on the bench who either should be starting or should be coming on to change a game.

“So when you leave Pogba on the bench, Ronaldo on the bench, Sancho on the bench, you feel obliged after spending fortunes on these types of players you are obliged to bring them on first when I thought Jesse Lingard was one of the most obvious ones,” Owen told BT Sport.

Man United’s next game is against Leicester City on October 16 after the international break.
