Edo APC Deputy Chairman Arrested Two Days To Election

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly arrested the state Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarret Tenebe.

It was alleged that the politician was arrested on the orders of the deputy governor of Edo State, Hon Philip Shaibu. Naija News reports the development is happening less than 48 hours before the Edo State House of Assembly election.

According to Tribune, Tenebe was arrested in his Ikabigbo home town, Etsako West local government area, for some reasons yet to be made public.

It was learnt that the Edo APC Vice Chairman, a popular mobilizer for the APC and strong loyalist of the former state governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had allegedly, in a recent video, accused the deputy governor of sundry issues.

In a Tuesday press conference in Benin City, the APC alleged that the state government planned to rig Saturday’s election, using thugs in various disguises.

Meanwhile, two supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were arrested in Kano State on Thursday by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Naija News reports.

The secret police spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen explaining that the citizens were arrested for inciting violence in the build-up to the 2023 governorship election this Saturday, March 18th.

He revealed the identity of the NNPP supporters as Sharu Abubakar Tabula and Isma’i Iliyasu Mangu.

According to Afunanya, DSS has deployed its operatives across other states of the federation to “track down any politician with the mindset of inciting violence ahead of March 18 gubernatorial and State Assembly elections”.

Speaking on the arrested duo, he said they were tracked down after separately recording inciting messages, which they shared through various social media channels.

Afunanya told Daily Trust that the security agency had obtained the inciting videos. He thereby called on the concerned party to shelve it forthwith or be ready to face the consequences.
