You Won’t Be Paid For Work Not Done

BREAKING: FG Directs Vice Chancellors To Reopen Varsities

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Wednesday insisted that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will not be paid for work not done.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu noted that the decision was reached in line with the ‘No work no pay’ policy.

Adamu stated this while reacting to the protest of members of ASUU over the half salary received by lecturers in October.

The minister had addressed State House correspondences after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Adamu said the position of the federal government was that the Lecturers “would not be paid for work not done.”

The Minister of Education in his reaction to the allegation made by the President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke that paying the lecturers on a pro-rata basis was a ploy to make them casual workers, said the government had no such plan.

Adamu said, “Nobody can make University lecturers casual workers.”

The Minister when told that the lecturers were threatening a one-day action to protest the government’s action, Adamu said he was not aware.

The Federal Government has failed to pay the lecturers for the eight months of industrial action which started on the 14th of February and ended on October 14th.
