The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has said that President Muhammadu Buhari was deceived into approving naira redesign policy initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Governor branded the policy a confiscation policy packaged beautifully.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, on Friday, Bello argued that Buhari was presented with the beautifully packaged policy and got deceived by it
The governor said, “The policy is more or less a policy of confiscation, packaged so beautifully, but Mr. President was deceived.”
When asked to mention those who deceived Buhari, Bello simply said, “those that advised Mr. President economically misled Mr. President.”
Naija News reports that Bello’s submission is coming a few hours after the Supreme Court, on Friday, nullified the ban on the use of the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes as legal tenders.
The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision by a seven-member panel of Justices, held that the old banknotes should remain valid legal tenders until December 31.
The court had berated the President for disobeying it’s initial order and ordering the ban on all old 500 and 1000 naira notes, maintaining that such an order undermined the democratic system of governance.
