Why I Visited IBB - Atiku Shares Details Of Meeting With Former President In Minna

The details of the meeting between the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Nigeria’s former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (rtd) have emerged.

As earlier reported by Naija News, Atiku on Friday, visited IBB at his Minna hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State in the company of some top PDP chieftains.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting which was held behind closed doors, Atiku disclosed that he was in the state to pay respect to the former President and to consult with him.

He said Babangida and others like him nursed the country to where it is and they remain relevant in the scheme of things.

In his words, “We will continue to come and pay our respect to them and remind them of their contribution to this country. We consider them fathers of post-war independence and they also nurse the current democratic dispensation in the country.”

Borno Attack

Speaking about the recent attack on his convoy in Borno State, Atiku told newsmen that the attack was orchestrated by political leaders in the state.

He described the incident as unfortunate particularly after a peace accord was signed.

“The Borno incident is most unfortunate, we signed a peace accord and it is unfortunate; the whole thing was sponsored by the political leadership of the state,” Atiku stated.

Wike And Others Will Be Pacified

The PDP candidate also stated that the aggrieved Governors in the party (G-5), led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State will soon be reconciled with the party, noting that it is a family affair.

Atiku disclosed that efforts are ongoing to resolve issues with all aggrieved stakeholders in the PDP before the 2023 elections.

He said: “The impasse is a family affair and it will be resolved before the 2023 presidential election. You will see a very, very united and strong PDP that will face the elections.”

Some of those with Atiku on the visit to Minna were the PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, DG Presidential Campaign Council, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and Governor Dahiriu Ishiaku of Taraba State.

Others are the campaign council spokesman, Senator Dino Melaye, former Niger State governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, and former governor of Adamawa State, Mr Boni Haruna among others.
