Why Casemiro Would Have Captained United At Villa Park - Ten Hag

Manchester United’s manager, Erik Ten Hag has revealed that the Brazilian star, Casemiro, would have been the third choice to captain United against Aston Villa, but was overlooked due to his lack of English.

The Dutch manager considered giving the Red Devil’s captain’s armband to Casemiro for his leadership qualities, but instead, passed it on to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, due to his fluency in the English language.

Many Sports fans were surprised when Ronaldo was chosen as United’s captain for the match against Aston Villa after a turbulent summer in which he made little effort to disguise his desire to quit the club and his decision to walk down the tunnel before the final whistle against Tottenham last month.

The Portuguese star was chosen as captain since backup Bruno Fernandes was suspended and usual leader Harry Maguire was sitting on the bench.

Ronaldo may have been chosen as captain in an effort to motivate his colleagues with his exceptional excellence on the field, but he and the team lost the game to Villa.

The Dutch manager defended his decision to make Ronaldo the captain after United suffered its fourth Premier League loss of the year.

“Harry Maguire is on the bench, our captain of the club. Then it is about David de Gea who is a leader but is a goalie and is far away from the outfield,” Ten Hag said.

“Then Casemiro is the leader but he is not speaking perfect English so then Cristiano is the leader.” added the Dutchman.
