Tottenham’s stance on Julian Nagelsmann amid uncertain Antonio Conte future

Tottenham Hotspur would be interested in speaking to Julian Nagelsmann to replace Antonio Conte as head coach but they have not made a concrete decision on their next move, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Conte was already set to leave Spurs when his contract expires at the end of this season with talks over a new deal collapsing.

However, following an extremely poor run of results which culminated in Conte labelling his players as ‘selfish’ and questioning ownership over the club’s record of one trophy in 20 years, the Italian had been expected to be given his marching orders this week.

Seven days on from the incident, Conte remains in his role as head coach, though has spent the week in Italy visiting his family due to the international break. Assistant coaches Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason have taken charge of training in his absence.

90min understands Tottenham are in talks with Conte regarding his future and would prefer him to leave before the end of the season.

While managers such as Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi, Marco Silva, Thomas Frank and ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino are on Spurs’ radar, another contender has emerged in Nagelsmann after he was surprisingly and suddenly let go by Bayern Munich.

Nagelsmann was previously a target for Tottenham when they sacked Jose Mourinho in 2021, only for the young German to agree to take charge at the Allianz Arena instead.

Sources have told 90min that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a fan of Nagelsmann and he will be considered as a potential successor to Conte. However, the club have not yet made a decision on who their next head coach will be.

Reports across England and Europe claim Nagelsmann was a huge fan of Tottenham during the Pochettino era, particularly fond of their high-pressing style.

While moving to a club like Spurs after being sacked by Bayern would make sense for Nageslmann, he could opt to sit out the rest of the season. In this case, it would be likely that Mason takes interim charge as he did following Mourinho’s dismissal in 2021.
