The decision of the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke to rename the state from “State of Osun” to “Osun State” has been rejected by the state House of Assembly.
Lawmakers in the House noted that the anthem of the state, crest and flag was an enactment of a law assented to on December 18, 2012, hence no person can exact force to change it.
Naija News had earlier reported that Governor Adeleke during the inauguration on Sunday reversed the name of the state from “State of Osun” to “Osun State”.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor also reversed its appellation from ‘The State of the Virtues’ to ‘The State of the Living Spring’.
Adeleke who had earlier warned the former Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola not to issue appointments in the state, also reversed all appointments effective from July 7, 2022.
The House through the Chairman of House Committee on Media and Publicity, Moshood Kunle Akande, in a statement however said the state will continue to be described as the “State of Osun” and “Ipinle Omulabi” (State of the Virtuous).
The Jigawa State Police Command has reacted to news of the arrest of Aminu Muhammad, a 500l student of the Federal University, Dutse over a tweet he made concerning the First Lady, Aisha Buhari.
Aminu had made a tweet apparently mocking the stature of Mrs. Aisha.
The tweet which was written in Hausa and accompanied by a photo of the first lady, read in English, “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full.
Muhammed was reportedly arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) and this has generated a lot of backlash from Nigerians.
One of those who condemned the actions of the DSS was a lawyer, Inibehe Effiong.
Also EndSARS activist, Aisha Yesufu berated the government for hushing the voice of an aggrieved citizen.
However, When Punch reached out to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu he said he was not aware.
“We didn’t make the arrest. An arrest cannot be made in my area without me being informed,” he said.
Vice Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Sen. Yusuf Datti Ahmed, has disclosed that if elected into office, he and his principal, Peter Obi, will fish out those terrorising the country wherever they are.
Datti said on Monday that the Labour Party presidential candidate would swing into action from the first month in office.
He said the Obi-Datti administration would ensure it stops the incessant killing, kidnapping and stealing of the nation’s resources in the first month of government and begin a healing process for the country.

The former lawmaker said kidnapping for ransom, subsidy racketeering, and money laundering, among others, would be tackled, and the economy would be boosted via investment in agriculture, infrastructure and attraction of foreign direct investments.
On Monday (today), the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, swore in no fewer than sixty-two new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
At the event held in Abuja, the CJN urged the new SANs to ensure they carry on the status with all sense of responsibility, noting that it required high standards of merit.
He said: “I would like to say that the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria comes with immense prestige, dignity and greater responsibilities as well.
“Traditionally, those conferred with the rank automatically become members of the Inner Bar and revered apostles of the temple of justice. It is an honour no conferee can afford to toy with.”
Ariwoola commended the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee members who took time to screen and assess all the relevant documents submitted by the applicants before arriving at the last decision.
The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reversed all 12, 000 appointments made into the service of the State Government.
Naija News reports that the Spokesperson for the governor, Olawale Rasheed, made the disclosure in a statement released on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital.
The governor’s spokesman said all appointments made in any capacity in all the ministries, departments, agencies, commissions, boards, and parastatals after July 17 are reversed.
Rasheed also said the governor has ordered the dethronement of three monarchs which includes the Owa of Igbajo, Aree of Iree, and Akinrun of Ikirun.
He said the governor also directed security agents to take over the palaces of the three traditional rulers to avoid further breakdown of law and order, saying that the directive was contained in the Executive order signed by the governor on Monday.
Rasheed said the contents of the six orders signed by the governor also stated that all appointments of traditional rulers made by the immediate past administration after July 17, 2022, would be reviewed.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has blamed the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the state of poverty in the country.
According to the party’s Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, the PDP should be held responsible for plunging over 133 million Nigerians into poverty.
Naija News reports that the APC chieftain noted that the surging poverty levels bedevilling Nigerians resulted from the PDP’s misrule of 16 years.
Ibrahim, made this assertion on Monday while featuring on the Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
The APC publicity director’s comments follow a revelation by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) last week in one of its reports that 63% of Nigerians, which is equivalent to 133 million people are multidimensionally poor.
The NBS report indicated that 65% of the poor live in the north, while 35% live in the south.
He, however, advanced that what the APC government under President Muhammadu Buhari has done since its assumption of power is to provide succour to Nigerians.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has warned Nigerians travelling to Europe and the United States to be cautious of their belongings.
The minister sent out the caution on Monday during the ‘PMB Administration Scorecard 2015-2023 Series’.
He explained that there have been complaints from Nigerians who travel to the US and countries in Europe that they “are having their belongings, especially money and international passports, stolen at an increasingly high rate.”
Mohammed warned that most victims of the incident are Nigerians travelling to Europe, especially the United Kingdom.
He, however, explained that that message is merely a piece of advice to citizens who may be planning a visit to the US or Europe and not a travel restriction.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered the immediate suspension of the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Segun Oladitan.
Naija News reports that the governor made this known in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tesleem Igbalaye, on Monday.
The statement added that the governor also ordered the suspension of six members of the Commission with immediate effect.
It said the chairman and the members were suspended based on several petitions bordering on financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism, and abuse of office.
The statement added that the Secretary to the Commission should take over the affairs of the Commission pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations against the suspended chairman and members.
The Court of Appeal, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State capital on Monday reinstated Ladi Adebutu as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
The appellate court in its ruling also reinstated others candidates of the party in Ogun State.
Naija News gathered that the Court of Appeal set aside the ruling of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abeokuta, which nullified the primaries of the PDP.
Recall that Justice O. Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court had nullified the candidacy of Adebutu and other candidates of PDP in Ogun State.
The ruling was passed by the judge following a suit filed by Segun Seriki and others.
However, Justice Folasade Ojo on Monday ruled that only the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has the power to nominate and conduct a primary election.
The court ruled that any primary held without the approval of the party’s NWC is null and void.
The earlier ruling of the Federal High Court was set aside for lack of jurisdiction.
Justice Ojo directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reinstate all PDP candidates.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday affirmed Bashir Machina as the standard flag bearer for the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the 2023 Yobe North Senatorial District election.
Naija News reports that the court order is not favourable to the embattled Senate President, Ahmad Lawan’s hope of seeking re-election in 2023.
The appellate court, in a judgement that was delivered by a three-man panel that was led by the President of the Court, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensen, dismissed Lawan’s appeal as lacking in merit.
Lawan had approached the appellate court to challenge the judgement of a Federal High Court in Damaturu, which had on September 28, 2022, declared Machina as the bonafide flag-bearer of the APC for the impending senatorial election.
It will be recalled that while the Senate President picked the presidential form of the APC and participated in the primary election that was won by Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, on the other hand, Machina, vied and won his bid to take over as the candidate of the party for the senatorial contest.
Following his defeat at the presidential primary, Lawan, urged Machina to relinquish the senatorial ticket to him, a request the latter blatantly refused.
However, in the face of the controversy, the APC, submitted Lawan’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as its senatorial candidate for Yobe North.
Machine, however, was not satisfied with the decision and proceeded to court for redress.
He specifically asked the court to declare him as the validly elected senatorial candidate of the APC for the senatorial election, a prayer that was accordingly granted.
Dissatisfied with the judgement, Lawan, who had publicly declared that he had accepted his situation in good faith, still proceeded to the appellate court, where he also lost on Monday.
