The Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has withdrawn its circular which ordered vice-chancellors, pro-chancellors, and governing councils to re-open federal universities.

Naija News reports that the Buhari Government gave the new directive on Monday afternoon through the National Universities Commission.

Recall that the NUC had earlier directed Vice Chancellors to immediately re-open all public Universities and allow students to go back to classes.

The Commission had given the order in a letter approved by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed.

But in another circular tagged NUC/ES/138/Vol.64/136, which was also signed by the Director, Finance and Account of the NUC, Sam Onazi, the commission withdrew the order without giving an explanation.

The National Electricity power grid collapsed for the eighth time in 2022 on Monday morning.

Reports obtained by Naija News confirmed that the grid crashed to zero megawatts today after a fault, throwing the entire country into a blackout.

It was reported by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company that the grid went down at about 10:51 am earlier today 26th September 2022.

Another distribution company, Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, which covers Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa States lamented power disruption due to the collapse of the national grid.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has approved the appointment of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and others as Special Advisers.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement on Monday by Atiku Abubakar’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe.

According to the statement, Atiku also appointed former presidential aspirant, Anyim Pius Anyim.

Ibrahim Shekarau who recently joined the PDP from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was also appointed as an Adviser but the name of Governor Nyesom Wike was missing on the list.

The leadership of Afenifere has revealed that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, are the reasons why the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation would not be supporting presidential candidates from other regions of the country other than the South-East.

Naija News reports that Afenifere had months ago declared their backing for an Igbo presidency in the 2023 elections.

The Southwest group was, however, criticized for its decision which many described as unnecessary.

However, in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, September 26, Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo explained categorically why the socio-cultural group has decided to support Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Adebanjo reiterated in the statement that neither Tinubu nor the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, would be supported by Afenifere.

Afenifere according to Adebanjo, stood on justice and fairness and believe in true federalism and the Federal Character principle.

The drama surrounding the inclusion of a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Chimaroke Nnamani in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has gone up by another notch.

This is as the APC presidential council director of media, Bayo Onanuga on Monday confirmed that the inclusion of Nnamani in its list is not a mistake.

The APC presidential campaign council also assured state governors on the party’s platform that nominations submitted by them have not been discarded.

Naija News recalls the inclusion of Nnamani, a serving senator and member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the APC campaign list caused a stir.

The APC council, has now released fresh details about the development, with claims that the Enugu lawmaker is working for the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, Abuja on Monday morning was blocked by some retired military officers.

The aggrieved retired military officers expressed their grievances over the non-payment of their Security Debarment Allowance, among others.

The protesters who were joined by some relatives of retired officers who are dead blocked the access road to the Ministry located at Ship House on Olusegun Obasanjo Way in Abuja.

The Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi was accused by the military veterans under the aegis of the Retired Members of Nigerian Armed Forces (RMNAF) and the Coalition of Concerned Veterans (CCV) of being insensitive to their plight.

The spokesman of the CCV, Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts while speaking on behalf of the protesters noted that they would not leave the ministry’s entrance until their demands are met.

Durowaiye-Herberts further stated that the retired military officers have made arrangements to sleep overnight if the situation warrants.

Political parties have been warned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to desist from any form of abusive language or hate speech ahead of the commencement of the 2023 general elections campaign.

The electoral body called on the political parties to study the Constitution, the Electoral Act, the Police Act and the Public Order Act for the proper and peaceful conduct of political campaigns, rallies and processions.

The warning was issued by INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu while speaking at the ongoing two-day capacity-building workshop on the commission’s progress, innovations, preparations for the 2023 general elections and critical issues in the Electoral Act 2022 in Lagos.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has held another meeting with former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obi disclosed this himself on Monday via a tweet from the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Naija News reports the two leaders met at the Abeokuta, Ogun State residence of the former Nigerian leader.

Revealing details of their discussion, Obi narrated in his tweet that they focused on matters of national importance.

“I deeply appreciate the opportunity to hold extensive discussions with President Olusegun Obasanjo earlier today on arising national interest matters. As usual, the exchanges were forthright and animated. -PO,” he tweeted.

The Bayelsa State police command on Monday paraded a kidnap kingpin arrested in Abuja, John Ewa, popularly known as ‘Lion’.

Ewa was paraded alongside three members of his gang by the police at the Police Officers Mess, Yenagoa Bayelsa State.

Recall that the kidnap kingpin was arrested on Sunday in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.

Naija News reported that the suspect, who was traced and arrested in Abuja, is among the kidnap gangs terrorising Bayelsa State and its environs.

A further report had it that changed his name to John Lyon when he was a dispatch rider at a commercial bank after he was sacked due to alleged involvement in criminal activities at the bank.

Ewa while working in the bank had access to privileged information which he supplied to criminals.

The suspect after his appointment was terminated, recruited boys to run a kidnap syndicate with specialisation in kidnapping high profile residents of the state.

Ewa was trialed after operatives of Puff Adder arrested two suspects, Kingsley Innocent and Godlives Donald involved in the kidnap of a manager with Premium Trust Bank, Yenagoa, Danjuma Emeije.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has denied a report that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered his removal as the spokesman of the All Progressives Congres (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

A news platform had reported that Buhari directed Keyamo’s removal as the spokesman of the campaign council over alleged constant demarketing of his administration despite being a serving minister.

The source added that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, was also said to have insisted on his removal following the latest interview on Channels Television.

According to the source, the Presidency has already informed the party leadership about the call for his removal.

However, in a tweet on Monday via his Twitter handle, Keyamo refuted the report that President Buhari has ordered his removal, describing it as fake news.

He accused the opposition of planting fake stories to destabilise the ranks of the ruling party, saying that the move was the height of the panic mode.
