Tinubu To Meet Ex-Millitant Leader, Tompolo, Others In Niger Delta

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is expected to have a closed-door meeting with the High Chief Government, Oweizide Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo.

Naija News reports that Tompolo is a former commander of a Militant group and leader of the Movement for the emancipation of the Niger Delta.

However, Tinubu, as part of his strategic engagement of stakeholders ahead of the 2023 election, is expected to be in the oil region today and would, before his departure, have a private discussion with Tompolo.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Friday revealed that Tinubu would continue with his electioneering campaign trip with a visit to Oporoza, the ancestral headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta state.

The APC presidential candidate is expected to pay homage to the Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, after which he will proceed to the home of Tompolo.

Recall that Tinubu was in Delta State barely two weeks ago, during which he launched the campaign of APC for the 2023 election at a well-attended rally in Warri.

Naija News reports that Tompolo on Monday donated relief materials to flood victims in three States including, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers.

The chief priest of the Egbesu deity released the help through his organization, the Tompolo Foundation.

Giving his remark earlier, Tompolo said the gesture was part of efforts to relieve the plights of persons affected by the recent devastating flood.

The items which are reported to be worth N150 million, included 2,400 bags of rice, 100 bags of beans, 200 bags of Garri, 5,000 tubers of yam, 200 kegs of palm oil, 600 kegs of groundnut oil and 2,000 cartons of noodles.

While handing over the relief items to the representatives of the affected areas in Warri, Delta state, the Tompolo foundation executive secretary Dr Paul Bebenimibo disclosed that the foundation has been in the business of rendering assistance to the “less privileged” since the previous flood in 2012.

His company recently got an N48 billion oil pipeline surveillance contract from NNPC Limited.

Analysts have said massive oil theft in the Niger Delta is at the root of Nigeria’s economy’s ongoing challenges.
