Intrigue As Tinubu Moves To Form National Unity Govt, To Zone Senate Presidency To South East

Cuba president, Miguel Diaz-Canel sent congratulatory message to Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over a month after he was declared winner of the February 25 presidential election.

Naija News recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the presidential election with 8.8 million votes.

His major contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi got 6.9 million votes and 6.1 million votes to finish second and third respectively.

Since INEC declared Tinubu as the winner of the election, there have been a series of contentions that have led the opposition candidates to challenge the victory in court.

Despite that, Tinubu has been receiving congratulatory messages from leaders across the world. The president of Cuba, Diaz-Canel, and his counterpart in Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega are the latest to send their well wishes to the president-elect.

A statement from Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, on Saturday, announced that the two presidents issued their well wishes to Tinubu in separate letters.

According to Rahman’s statement, the Cuban president said the emergence of Tinubu is “a reaffirmation of the will to continue to strengthen the historic relations of friendship between the two countries.”

While the president of Nicaragua and his vice, Rosario Murillo, said: “Our best wishes for peace and prosperity of Nigeria while reiterating our unwavering commitment to continue strengthening the fraternal bonds of solidarity and brotherhood that unite our peoples and governments.”
