Getting decorated with chieftaincy titles and other honours are not new to a former Governor of Lagos State and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.
As the race towards the 2023 general elections get tighter, the politician has continued to add even more feathers to this cap.
On Friday, November 25, 2022, the APC chieftain was honoured in Delta State by the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaraun II, on Friday.
In the presence of some other traditional rulers, and political figures, Tinubu was conferred with the title of ‘Iyelawei’ (a very important person).
Tinubu also harkened to the saying, ‘When in Rome, behave like the Romans’, as he dressed like his hosts. He had a white wrapper tied around him, while two white beads rested on his neck.
Barely two days earlier, on Wednesday, Tinubu was conferred with a traditional title, Dike Di Ora Nma 1, by the state’s Traditional Rulers Council during a town hall meeting.
After receiving the title, which means ‘a hero loved by all’, Tinubu commended the state governor, David Umuahi, for the infrastructural growth of the state under him.
Just like in Delta, the former governor dressed like his hosts, as he was adorned in the Igbo traditional attire.
According to Chooks Oko, a Special Assistant on Media and Strategy to Governor Umahi stated that Tinubu promised to develop the country, including Ebonyi, if elected as president.
On his part, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Charles Mkpuma, wished Tinubu success in his presidential ambition.
Undoubtedly one of his most popular titles, Tinubu was turbaned as the ‘Jagaban of Borgu’ (Leader of warriors) in February 2006 by the Emir of Borgu, Niger State. He also the title, ‘Asiwaju’.
Others who were conferred with traditional titles in Gbaramatu were the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, who was named the Ibe-Ikiowei (one who knows the road); the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo, as Igoniniwei (the man that knows the way) while the title of Itaremobowei (one who comes with love) was conferred on the governor of Yobe State, Mai Buni. A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, bagged the Kuromobowei title (the man that comes with force).
