The best goals of MLS Cup

The 2022 Major League Soccer Cup was one for the books.

No one could have predicted the chaotic 3-3 score after extra-time that forced the match into penalties. LAFC’s John McCarthy was the hero of the night, coming in for injured goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau in the 117th minute before saving two penalties to propel Steve Cherundolo’s side to the historic victory.

LAFC lifted their first ever Major League Soccer title, unleashing euphoric celebrations at Banc of California Stadium.

Here are the best goals of the game…

Philadelphia Union’s first of the match.

Daniel Gazdag opened up the scoring for the visitors in the second half, intensifying an already heated match. The player connected with teammate Jose Martinez to beat Crepeau to the back of the net.

Never underestimate LAFC in a set piece.

Carlos Vela curled the ball into the box with the corner, allowing Murillo to head it home past 2022 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake. Fans celebrated as if LAFC had just won the game, but at minute 82, it was far from over.

Jack Elliot made sure to keep the action coming with the team’s second equalizer in the 84th minute. The player reacted well to a free kick, beating Crepeau by heading the ball into the back of the net.

This may not have been the most exciting, or diverse goal, but it definitely stood as the most meaningful of the match.

Ilie Sanchez scored the winning penalty that earned LAFC their first-ever league title to make team history. One for the books, forever.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Gareth Bale with the extra-time equalizer for LAFC to take the game into penalties. He connected with teammate Diego Palacios to beat Blake to the net, and send Banc of California into an absolute frenzy.

The cheers were deafening.

It stands as the latest goal recorded in MLS history at the 128th minute.
