The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, has urged residents of the town to take precautions to prevent fire incident as dry season approaches.

It will be recalled that a section of Oba market, Osogbo was razed by fire around 1:00am on Tuesday, where property and personal belongings of many traders were lost.

Oba Olanipekun said this in his palace while receiving government delegation that visited him to sympathise with the community over the fire incidence.

The monarch, who commended the state government for showing concern, said precautionary measures by the residents would prevent reoccurrence of such incident.

He further said, ” Let us take precautions as the dry season is fast approaching. This would further help to prevent such an ugly incidence in the future.”

Meanwhile, the state government has urged residents to prioritise personal and collective safety as part of efforts to prevent possible disasters as dry season approaches.

The governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, made the statement during his on-the-spot assessment of the site of the inferno at popular Oja-Oba market, Osogbo, the state capital.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ismail Omipidan, on Wednesday said Oyetola, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Oyebamiji, while addressing journalists after assessment of the damage caused by the incidence, expressed deep grief, just as he thanked God that no life was lost to the inferno.

Quoting the SSG, the statement read in parts, “Mr Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola is not around now but he has requested that a powerful delegation must come to commiserate with the affected market men and women, most importantly the Iyaloja and Babaloja of this market and that is why we are here.

“Mr Governor sympathises with the victims and prays that an incidence of such will not reoccur. As you all know, our governor is always concerned about the welfare and comfort of the citizens and as soon as he comes back, he will make a statement. So, on behalf of himself and the good people of Osun, we commiserate with the victims and entire members of the market community.”
