Super Eagles players under Peseiro better than 2013 AFCON winning team – Ex-Chelsea defender

Former Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo has claimed that the current Super Eagles players under head coach, Jose Peseiro are better in terms of quality compared to the 2013 AFCON winning team.

Omeruo stated this while previewing Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON second-leg tie against Guinea-Bissau on Monday evening.

Recall that the Super Eagles lost 1-0 against Guinea-Bissau in the first-leg encounter in Abuja last Friday.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Omeruo, who was a member of the 2013 AFCON winning squad that had the likes of John Obi Mikel, Vincent Enyeama, Victor Moses, Emmanuel Emenike, Sunday Mba, Ahmed Musa, Ogenyi Onazi, Ambrose Efe, others, said the current squad are good enough to avenge the first leg defeat to Guinea-Bissau.

He said, “Believe me, we have better players with better quality now than we did when we won the AFCON in 2013 and this is why I believe it’s something we can definitely do [beat Guinea-Bissau in the second-leg].

“And my role is to do my best on the pitch and try to advise, especially the new players coming in.”
