Super Eagles Legend Salutes Senegal’s Well Deserved Victory

Ex-Nigeria International, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has showered praises on the Senegalese side for their performance against Qatar.

The former captain of the Super Eagles praised Senegal after their 3-1 victory against Qatar in their second Group A encounter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday.

As a result of goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou, and Bamba Dieng, the Teranga Lions defeated the host country, which led to their elimination from the tournament.

Naija News recalls that the Netherlands beat Senegal 2-0 in their first match of the competition, and Aliou Cisse’s men bounced back with high Energy to defeat the Middle East country.

After the Netherlands and Ecuador drew 1-1, the group is suddenly quite open, and any of the three teams—Senegal, Ecuador, or Holland—could advance to the next round.

The former Bolton Wanderers player told Supersports: “Finally we’ve got our first win as Africans at the World Cup. It was a good win, well deserved.

“They had a bit of a hiccup after conceding that goal but I think they controlled the match and they were lucky coming up against Qatar who I think do not have enough to really punish these Senegalese teams when they make mistakes.

“Credit to Senegal for getting their first win.”
