States Where Court Has Sacked PDP, APC Governorship Candidates

APC Still Cleaning Up The Mess Created In Nigeria By PDP - Presidency

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risk the chance of missing out totally in 2023 on the governorship positions in some states based on court orders.

Naija News reports that court orders have made the fate of the parties unknown just a few months before the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

For the APC, the court has sacked its candidates produced by primaries in two states while the PDP candidate in a state has also been sacked by a court order.

For the APC, the fate of the party remains unknown in Adamawa and Taraba States with the court order banning the ruling party from fielding any candidate in Adamawa.

For the PDP, the court not only sacked its candidate in Zamfara State, but also ruled that the party can’t have any candidate for the 2023 governorship polls in the state.

The parties however still have the opportunity to appeal the court orders.

1. APC – Adamawa State

A Federal High Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State capital has nullified the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that was conducted in the state in May 2022.

Naija News understands that the May 26 polls had produced Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Binani as the flag-bearer of the party. The politician emerged winner of the APC ticket after pulling 430 votes to defeat her closest contender, Nuhu Ribadu, who scored 280 votes.

However, Justice Abdul-Aziz Anka of the federal high court in the state on Friday, October 14, declared as null and void the election. He as well annulled the purported victory of Binani as the winner of the election.

The Judge went ahead to declare that APC cannot field any candidate in the 2023 election.

2. APC – Taraba State

The Governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State was nullified by a Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo on Tuesday, 20th September 2022.

The electoral process of the APC produced Emmanuel Bwacha as its flagbearer in the 2023 governorship election.

An aggrieved aspirant in the party, David Kente had approached the court filing a suit against APC for recognizing Bwacha as the candidate of the party in Taraba State.

The presiding judge, Justice Simon Amobeda in his ruling, ordered Bwacha to stop parading himself as the governorship candidate of the APC.

3. PDP – Zamfara State

A Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamafara State on Tuesday, November 8, barred the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from fielding a governorship candidate in Zamfara for the 2023 elections.

The court according to an order by Justice Aminu Bappa ruled that the PDP does not have a valid candidate for the Zamfara governorship election.

It nullified the May 25, 2022, primary election that produced Dauda Lawal as a candidate.

Naija News reports this is the second time the court will nullify the 2023 PDP primary in Zamfara State.

Justice Bappa also barred the party from fielding any candidate.
