Southampton make move for Cody Gakpo; PSV target Anwar El Ghazi

Southampton are the latest club to make an approach for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, 90min understands.

The Netherlands international has attracted interest from Manchester United, while Nottingham Forest had a bid rejected earlier this summer. Fellow Premier League sides Everton, Leeds, Leicester and Newcastle have also been keeping tabs on his situation.

Sources have told 90min Southampton have spoken to PSV about Gakpo and made it clear they would be willing to pay up to €40m, but the Eindhoven giants are understood to be looking for €50m.

90min also understands Gakpo is unclear about his future and considering his options with the World Cup now just months away.

PSV, though, are thinking of their options should Gakpo depart and 90min understands that they are close to agreeing terms with Aston Villa over the signing of Anwar El Ghazi.

El Ghazi, who had a brief spell on loan at Everton last season, has been told by Villa he can leave and he was linked with a return to Ajax. However, a deal with PSV is now close with the Dutch side hoping to land him for around €5m.
