Two Chibok girls, Hawa Joseph and Mary Dauda who were rescued by the Nigerian Army during the week have been reunited at a military medical facility for evaluation.

The girls, according to the Nigerian Army, were intercepted by frontline troops on 14 June 2022 after 8 years of captivity.

Hawa and Mary were said to be friends at the GGSS Chibok prior to their abduction in 2014 and never met while in captivity.

Recall that about 276 students of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, were kidnapped on April 14, 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists.

The abduction caused a stir worldwide, leading to calls for the return of the girls by global figures, including then First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.

Although a good number of the students have regained their freedom, about 100 are still believed to be in captivity.
