The Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has tackled his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, over the exorbitant fees paid at his University.

Naija News reports that the former Vice President is the owner of a private university, the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Speaking at a town hall meeting organized by Arise News on Sunday, Kwankwaso advised Atiku to reduce the school fees so that many Nigerians can gain admission into the university.

The former Governor of Kano State said one of the ways to improve Nigeria’s education sector is to encourage the private sector to invest in education from the primary to the tertiary level.

He said, “I have to thank Waziri, he has a university, which is a very good thing. The only thing is that he should try and make the fees much lower so that our teeming supporters and Nigerians, as many as possible, can join the university”.

Speaking further, Kwankwaso said the issue of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has to do with honesty, credibility, and sincerity.

“Also the issue of ASUU requires honesty. We will carry everyone along. As governor of Kano, we were not going on strike because we were providing them with what they needed. We will ensure that these universities are upgraded and improved before anything else. Leaders must lead from the front,” he said.
