Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier has defended Neymar after the Brazilian showed his anger at being substituted in their win over Lyon.
Neymar provided the assist for the Lionel Messi goal that decided the 1-0 win, but he was hauled off near the end as PSG aimed to protect their lead. That did not go down well with the Brazilian, who made little secret of his discontent as he sat on the bench apparently very frustrated at the decision.
Galtier, though, has defended the temperamental forward, telling Amazon Prime: “In these matches, the great players have to stand out like Ney and Messi who were very good,”
“Neymar has worked a lot for the team. He came out, in my opinion, a little flushed and a little angry but that’s normal. He has impeccable behaviour.”
Neymar has shone so far this season for PSG, scoring 11 goals and provided eight assists in just 13 appearances. His overall record for the club is exceptional too, with 77 goals and 44 assists in 100 Ligue 1 matches since his move from Barcelona.
However, to many he is still seen to be behind Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in the PSG pecking order, but Galtier hopes his contribution is not overlooked.
“He is the one who gives the best balance,” the boss explained. “He has volume and intensity and he is also generous to the team. He is both able to replace himself and to have dazzling, technical quality. He is a great entertainer.”
