Representative of the World Health Organisation, Dr. Walter Kazadi-Mulombo, on Thursday said the pathway to Nigeria attaining Universal Health Coverage is deliberate support to primary healthcare.

Kazadi-Mulombo stated this in his address before the Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, inaugurated the Doma Health Clinic, Jekadafari, Gombe.

The clinic, according to the state government is to help provide medical services to the residents of the area.

According to the WHO official, diseases and outbreaks emerge from the community, stressing that well equipped primary healthcare centres would help curb the spread.

He said, “Some weeks ago I joined you in Chattam house where you were exposing your vision to strengthen primary healthcare. This is really a testimony, that you truly walk the talk.

“Primary Healthcare is the pathway to Universal Health Coverage.

“Diseases and outbreaks start in the community, so bringing healthcare to the community like we are witnessing today is truly commendable and I will like to congratulate you on behalf of all the partners working in Nigeria, especially in Gombe State.”

Also speaking, Commissioner for Health Dr. Habu Dahiru, said the facility would tackle health needs ranging from, “Immunisation, safe hospital delivery, nutritional service, and health education.

“I urge the community to utilise the facility for the purpose It’s meant for,” Dahiru said.

Also speaking, Governor Yahaya said the establishment of the facility was part of his administration’s vision of bringing healthcare closer to the poor and vulnerable.

Yahaya disclosed that health facilities in the state have taken a new look, following his determination to revamp the health sector.

“We promised and we delivered, the icing on the cake is Go health, where over 120,000 are registered, and what gladens my heart most is the less privileged 40,000 of them are enrolled and enjoying the benefits,” Yahaya said.
