Police Reacts To Abduction Of Chinese Nationals, Killing Of Officers, Others In Niger

Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the killing of some of its officers by bandit terrorists in an attack on Wednesday.

Naija News reports bandits yesterday kidnapped two Chinese nationals and killed at least thirteen security agents during an attack on a mining site in the state.

Reports revealed that the assailants stormed Ajata, Aboki in Gurmana ward of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state in the noon hour and opened fire into the air.

The Co-convener, Concerned Shiroro Youth of Niger State, Sani Kokki who confirmed the incident said the gunmen attacked the mining site and kidnapped a yet-to-be-identified number of people including two Chinese expatriates after killing some security operatives.

According to Kokki, Major Anara, and Capt Abubakar Samido, were among the military casualties in the attack carried out by terrorists.

Naija News in an attempt to get further details on the incident, contacted Niger State Police Commissioner, Monday Bala Kuryas.

The state police boss who responded swiftly in a chat with our correspondent admitted that police officers were among those killed in the attack.

“It includes the Police,” said Kuryas while responding to the question of if police officers were truly among those killed.

Kuryas, however, declined to speak further on the incident.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Government had confirmed the attack in a statement earlier.

In a statement released earlier, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Emmanuel Umar said that a joint security team mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists.

Umar said many of the joint security operatives sustained injuries, adding that the number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

He said some of the gunmen were killed during the rescue effort, and that some security operatives were rescued and taken to a government medical centre for treatment.
