Peter Obi Sends Message To Muslims As 2023 Ramadan Fast Commences

Labour Party (LP) candidate in the just concluded presidential election, Peter Obi, has sent his goodwill message to Muslims across Nigeria as they observe this year’s Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, announced Thursday, March 23, as the start date for the 2023 Ramadan fast in Nigeria, Naija News reports.

The Sultan, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) made the announcement in a broadcast on Wednesday evening.

Taking to his verified Twitter page on Thursday morning, Obi urged Muslims to have Nigeria at heart as they observe the Ramadan fasting and prayer season.

While praying that their prayer and supplications are answered by God, Obi also charge the Islamic community to seek God’s special blessing for peace and justice in the country.

“During this very sombre time in our nation’s political history, I would like to enjoin our Muslim brothers and sisters as you begin the one month fasting, praying, and alms-giving during this holy month of Ramadan, to have our dear country in mind as you ask for the forgiveness of our numerous shortcomings and transgressions, and seek for a special blessing for peace and Justice in our nation.

“Very striking is the fact that this year’s Ramadan is starting at the time when the Christians are 26 days into their 40 days Lenten season which also involves fasting, praying and charity.

“I pray that the supplications the adherents of the two religions will offer at this very special time will help to mitigate our sins as a nation, bring peace and harmony, and help our journey to salvation. Ramadan Mubarak,” Obi wrote on Twitter.
