PDP Ignores Wike, To Commence Campaign With Ayu As Chairman

2023: 'I Won’t Work For You' - PDP National Chairman, Ayu Tells Atiku

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to commence its campaigns for the 2023 general elections with its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected according to earlier released time table to lift the embargo on political campaigns on Wednesday.

There are claims that PDP would go on with the campaign despite the call by the camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for Ayu to resign from office.

Recall that Wike’s camp last week pulled out of the campaign committee following the failure of Ayu to resign from office.

A source who spoke on the campaign plan of PDP with Daily Independent said the party has agreed to go on with Ayu following the vote of confidence passed on him by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

The source further stated the party will only do without Ayu if he voluntarily chose to step down, adding that they would not allow a southerner to take over even if Ayu steps down.

There are claims that the camp of Governor Wike is supporting the deputy national chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja to take over from Ayu in an acting capacity.

The source when asked if PDP can make headway in Rivers, Oyo and other states where Wike and his allies are in charge said, “There is no cause for alarm as that has already been taken care of by the party”.

He said the party and the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar had made several efforts to resolve the crisis in the party.

The source added that the campaign is starting on September 28 and the party has to move on.
