Paris Saint-Germain interest in Brazil winger confirmed by manager

Zenit Saint-Petersburg manager Sergei Semak has confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing winger Malcom this month.

25-year-old Malcom, a €41m signing for Barcelona in 2018, joined Zenit just 12 months later after his move to Camp Nou and currently sits second in the Russian league’s scoring charts with 12 goals from 17 games.

PSG have been touted as suitors for Malcom recently and the Ligue 1 side’s interest has now been confirmed by Semak.

“No official offer has been received for Malcom, but there is interest from Paris Saint-Germain,” Semak told reporters.

“I spoke to him and we are waiting for a formal proposal, and if it comes, we will examine it.”

Semak went on to stress that Zenit are not looking to part ways with Malcom, whose contract runs until 2027, but confessed that would not force the Brazilian to remain if he asked to return to Ligue 1, where he enjoyed 18 months with Bordeaux before his move to Barcelona.

“They are a good club, one of the best in modern European football,” the Zenit boss said of PSG. “We would never force a player to stay, but Malcom is ready to fulfil the obligations of his contract with us. Today he plays for us.

“We haven’t had an official offer from Paris Saint-Germain so there’s nothing to talk about. There is interest, but we still have to go beyond that.”
