Oyo State Govt blames hoodlums for naira scarcity protest

The Oyo State Government said it has put down an attempt to breach public peace in the name of protest by some hoodlums.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Fatai Owoseni, disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Monday.

Recall that DAILY POST had reported that scores of students staged protests in Oyo State over naira and fuel scarcity.

To preempt further escalation, security operatives were deployed to the office of the Central Bank of Nigeria in the state.

Reacting to the development, Owoseni said the government had controlled the situation.

“Within an hour, while containing the situation, the hoodlums were chased away by security operatives.

“Yes, there was a Wema bank situation, I wouldn’t have known if there was a provocation. [But] in some parts of Ibadan, they didn’t know the protest was happening. It was controlled within a short time,” he said.
