The Court of Appeal sitting in Edo State on Friday nullified the list of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates submitted by the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

The appellant court ruled in favour of candidates belonging to the Legacy PDP Group led by the National Vice Chairman of the party, Dan Orbih.

Following the ruling by Justice Tunde Oyebamiji Awotoye, the candidates that emerged from the primaries of Orbih would be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2023.

The Court of Appeal on Friday also struck out an earlier suit which declared the candidates from the faction of the state Governor, Obaseki as the authentic candidates of the PDP because of the incomplete transmission of records.

Governor Obaseki and Orbih have been fighting for leadership in the state chapter of the PDP.

The crisis in the party saw the groups present two different lists of candidates to INEC following parallel primaries held by the two factions.

The state High Court had earlier ruled in favour of Obaseki which forced Orbih’s faction to head for the Appeal Court in Benin.

Justice Awotoye in his ruling resolved four out of the six issues in favour of the Legacy Group candidates and declared that their appeal was meritorious and therefore allowed.
