Omeruo plays down Super Eagles Recent Struggles Against Minnows – Latest Sports News In Nigeria

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo says Guinea Bissau were lucky to get a win in Abuja last Friday.

Mame Baldé’s goal was the difference between both teams in the first leg of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Omeruo, in a chat with the media ahead of the second-leg of the fixture in Bissau, said that the three-time African Champions are ready to correct their mistakes.

“Guinea-Bissau was lucky to come out with the win against us because possession wise we dominated the game and we missed a lot of chances. I think the boys know what the mission is, we are not here for a draw we are coming to fight for everything.

Nigerians were disappointed by the team’s surprised losses to the lowly-rated Countries, since winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.

The Super Eagles missed the tournament twice, making a return in 2019 and also featured in 2021 edition, where they lost out in the round of 16.

Speaking on the recent decline, the Center back revealed the current squad is more talented that their 2013 counterparts, but just need to get consistency.

“And believe me we have better players with better quality now than we did when we won the AFCON in 2013 and this is why I believe it’s something we can definitely do. And my role is to do my best on the pitch and try to advise especially the new players coming in,” He concluded.
