NSCDC inaugurates taskforce to clamp down on illegal private guards in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Saturday expressed its readiness to clamp down on unregistered and unprofessional armed private guard operators in the state.

NSCDC State Commandant Ilelaboye Oyejide said this in his office while inaugurating a taskforce to check the activities of private security guards across the state, declaring that Bauchi will no longer be a safe haven for the operation of illegal security guards.

According to Oyejide, there is an urgent need to find a way of dealing with the unregistered private guards springing up in the state, adding that if they are left unchecked, they will constitute pockets of security threats to the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

“The illegal private guard operators, illegal miners, and Sara-Suka that have become a menace and constitute a nuisance to the state will be dealt with thoroughly.

“I have constituted a task force to monitor and crack down on illegal private guard operators. Already, a team of well-trained, gallant personnel is on ground to go after these miscreants, and Bauchi State will not be a safe haven for them. Any illegal private guard operator detected will be sealed and taken to court,” Oyejide said.

He admonished the members of the taskforce, made up of NSCDC personnel and registered private guard operators in the state, to discharge their duties with a high sense of professionalism.

Responding on behalf of the taskforce, the leader of the team, Captain Dauda Maishanu (retd), asserted that the activities of illegal security guards in the state have contributed to a couple of security challenges in the state.

He assured that the taskforce would do its best to ensure that such illegal operators are brought to justice.

According to him: “We will fish out unregistered guards in their locations. We know where they are because we are in Bauchi. There are so many registered guards in Bauchi.”
