Nothing Will Hinder 2023 Elections

Chief Of Defence Staff Reveals Number Of Persons Killed, Injured In Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor has assured that despite rising insecurity in Nigeria, the forthcoming 2023 general elections will hold as scheduled.

Irabor, who spoke during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday at the defence headquarters in Abuja, said the military remained unshaken with its commitment to protecting the lives of citizens and the democratic ideals in the country.

He assured that his men will do everything possible to ensure that nothing stops the poll from holding.

Naija News understands that there is tension in the country on whether the 2023 polls will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the country as scheduled.

This is as the activities of terrorists and bandits continue to surge across states despite efforts by security agents.

However, Irabor, on Tuesday reiterated the military’s covenant to protect Nigeria’s democracy, noting that it has not changed its position.

Naija News understands that the parley attended by Irabor was meant to solicit the support of the media organisations towards tackling the security challenges in the country.

It is the second in the series of engagements between the chief of defence staff and executives and editors of media organisations in Nigeria.

Irabor also used the event to reveal that the assailants linked to a suspected terror attack on the Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo two months ago have been arrested.

The general, however, did not reveal the number of arrested suspects arrested.
