Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal on Thursday condemned the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lawal in a statement released claimed that aggrieved Northern Christians in the party after much review have decided to support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.
The statement released by Lawal was, however, countered by former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and some others who claimed that Lawal was speaking for himself.
Dogara further stated that the group are yet to decide on the presidential candidate to support in 2023.
A chieftain of the APC, Ahmed Sajo while reacting to Lawal’s stand in an interview on Channels TV described the former SGF as being emotional.
Sajo while speaking about the possibility of anger among northern Christians over the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC said he does not think they are angry.
The former Commissioner for Information in Adamawa State while speaking during the interview said, “I don’t think so. There are people who are emotional like Babachir and co. You cannot excuse them; you cannot say, ‘You cannot exist within our region.’ But they are there. But that does not mean that, politically, we have marginalised our brothers.
“My local government is 90 per cent Muslim and our candidate for House of Assembly is a Christian. We don’t see him as a Christian; we see him as a brother, a capable person, and somebody that can deliver.”
Sajo when asked if the ruling party, APC recognises Christians as a force in the North, he said, “Absolutely! Is it not in my party that Babachir was made SGF and Boss Mustapha is now SGF? Are they not northern Christians? Is it not in my party that (Yakubu) Dogara was the speaker of the House of Representatives?
“You think that if they were marginalised, they would have arrived at that level? Remember, David Mark was Senate President for how long? Is he not a northern Christian? If they were marginalised, would he have been the Senate President?
“Don’t forget, at a certain point in time when David Mark was the Senate President, Ekweremadu, a southern Christian, was the deputy senate, president.”
