The Kano State of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has demanded the arrest and prosecution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the state, Abdullahi Abbas.

The Kano NNPP said his arrest has become necessary because of his act “for instigating political violence.”

The NNPP accused Abbas of “publicly aiding and actively supporting attacks on NNPP supporters and campaign properties.”

Naija News gathered that the NNPP governorship candidate, in the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf also alleged that the state APC chairman had ordered an attack on party members and supporters on November 12 at the NNPP office in Chiranchi quarters.

In his narration, Yusuf further alleged that Abbas directed his son Sani, and his close aide Junaidu Abdulhamid, to launch attack, adding that the two with about 50 miscreants, injured supporters at the party’s office.

Yusuf, who threatened to boycott the 2023 governorship election in Kano State, noted in a statement signed by spokesman Sanusi Bature, that some police officer from Gwale Division allegedly provided cover for “the evil act.”

He observed that it was rather unfortunate that despite the efforts of the new Commissioner of Police to address thuggery, his officers in Gwale and Mandawari were protecting APC thugs.

The NNPP said the police divisions in both area refused to attend to any of the complaints filed by its members and followers, recalling that the police is yet to investigate the burning of Yusuf’s house since 2019.

The APC Chairman is known for hate speeches. He has been notorious for causing crises.

“There are numerous audio and video clips on social media platforms that provide clear evidence of these assertions,” Yusuf added.

He therefore called on security agencies to commence a probe of Abbas and the Kano APC leadership.

Naija News also understands that the Action Democratic Party (ADP) gubernatorial candidate, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, has also called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute the state APC chairman Abbas who has insisted that the APC will win in Kano by “hook or crook.”

Sharada said Abbas called openly for violence during the flag-off of the APC gubernatorial campaign at Gaya Local Government on the 23rd of November 2022.

In a statement issued by the ADP Gubernatorial Campaign Council spokesperson, Abbas Yushau Yusuf, Sharada described the comments by the state APC chairman as a call to violence and voter intimidation ahead of the general election.

He said Abbas’s speech contravenes Section 92 to Section 96 of the 2022 Electoral Act which prohibits threat or use of force against voters.

We call on civil society organizations, the cleric, statesmen and other well-meaning individuals to put hands together and stop people like Abdullahi Abbas and his ilk from making statements that will continue to overheat the polity [before] and after election day,” Sharada noted.
