Nigerian Newspapers Review: What You Must Know Today’s Morning

1. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, directed the nation’s security chiefs to eliminate bandits and kidnappers along Abuja-Kaduna road in particular and other places across the country. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, announced this on Thursday at the end of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting presided over by the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

2. Kidnappers have killed a man simply identified as Ayuba, and abducted six family members inside a farm at Lagbeta community in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State. A relation of the victims, Ishaya Bulus, said the incident happened on Wednesday morning at about 10:12am when the victims were harvesting seeds at the farm.

3. Controversial human rights activist and supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Kenechukwu Okeke has been killed in Anambra State. His wife, Blessing Odinakachi Okeke who made this known yesterday, said the activist was set on fire by his attackers numbering seven.

4. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged Christians in the state to pray for him and his administration rather than castigate him as he gives his best to ensure purposeful leadership in the state. The Governor spoke Thursday in his message at the Special Church Service heralding the dedication of the new Church auditorium of the RCN Embassy in Makurdi.

5. President Muhammadu Buhari has said with the success recorded by INEC, in the just-concluded Anambra State governorship election, nothing would threaten the 2023 general elections. Buhari also expressed appreciation for the successes and gains recorded by the security chiefs and intelligence organisations on security situation nationwide.

6. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Thursday, launched the Tertiary Institutions Entrepreneurship Scheme (TIES), to provide access to finance bankable ideas by graduates and undergraduates, in the quest to tackle youth unemployment in the country. Speaking at the event, in Abuja, the Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, vowed to tackle youth unemployment and underemployment in the country.

7. Two Fulani herdsmen suspected to be kidnappers have been arrested for abducting two fellow Fulani herdsmen in Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Council area of Ondo state by men of the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun. The Commander of the state Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye said in Akure that a member of the syndicate, Sidi Amodu, was apprehended inside a forest in Supare Akoko.

8. The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo state, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has described the recent violent protest by students which led to the destruction of the institutions property as needless and unfortunate. He stated this while speaking at the end of an assessment tour of buildings and other property damaged by the students.

9. The Anambra State Government has accused the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), of allegedly being behind the recent move by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against the state governor, Willie Obiano. The Commissioner of Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba, alleged that Malami had made efforts to frustrate the recent governorship election in Anambra.

10. Two people, a male and female, have been found dead inside a car, along Katsina road area of Fagge Local Government in Kano. An eyewitness said that the deceased were identified as Steven Ayika, who is a married man with two children and one Chiamaka Emmanuel, who is billed to be married in December. DailyPost
