Niger APC Gov-elect, Bago commends rival Kantigi for conceding defeat

The governor-elect of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Umar Mohammed Bago has commended his opponent, Alh. Isah Liman Kantigi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for conceding defeat at the just concluded governorship elections in Niger State.

Bago stated this while giving his acceptance speech at the Senator Musa Sani Party Secretariat, shortly after his declaration as winner of the governorship elections in Minna by the state Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Returning Officer, Professor Clement Alawa, who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor, DVC, Academics University of Abuja.

He admitted that though he won the election, the PDP governorship candidate gave him a good fight for the seat at the Saturday’s poll in the state.

According to him: ” Alh. Isah Liman Kantigi is a wonderful man who gave us a good fight at the elections. We thank him for conceding, he showed the spirit of sportsmanship.”

The Niger State governor-elect further said: “Today is not for much speech. We will have to wait until the day my certificate of return will be issued; however, we have come to openly accept this victory.”

Bago, a member of the National House of Representatives stated that his doors are opened to carry everyone along in order to move Niger State forward towards the path of growth and progress.

He said:”Our hands are open for everyone to come and join us so that we move the state forward.”

The lawmaker then urged supporters of the party to be humble in victory as they celebrate the outcome of the elections, while thanking them for the massive support given to his candidature during the polls in the state.

Bago, according to INEC polled 469, 896 votes to beat his closest rival, Alh Isah Liman Kantigi who got 387,476 votes.
