The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has been described as deceitful and insensitive by the Anglican Communion in Calabar, Cross River State.

Naija News reports that the Church’s position was expressed in a statement by the Bishop of Calabar Diocese, Rev Professor Nneoyi Egbe while reacting to the decision of the ruling party to settle for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the forthcoming election.

Recall that APC’s presidential candidate and national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu on Sunday, announced former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his standard running mate for the 2023 election.

The development has since attracted comments from political stakeholders, religious leaders and concerned Nigerians.

Speaking during the second session of the eleventh synod of the Anglican diocese, Bishop Egbe said the Christian community do not and will not accept a Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket.

According to him, the nation’s secularity must be respected by the leaders as no one has more rights than the others.

Bishop Egbe further lamented the security architecture of the country saying though there is security, people still cannot freely embark on a journey.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and his government is deceitful, and insensitive to the plight of Nigerians and the heightened insecurity and should resign immediately even though it is not in the spirit of Nigerian politicians to do so.

“The government has no moral rectitude. They have disappointed Nigerians. How can they be so insensitive and comfortable with the way things are going in Nigeria in recent times. They are a complete failure and their governance is likened to witchcraft,” the Anglican leader said.

He added: “This government thrives on lies. They said Nigeria is very safe. What a fat lie. There’s security yet people cannot travel freely, sleep, people are kidnapped and outrageous ransoms are paid and people are killed wantonly and government merely sends condolence messages.

“Nigerians have acclimatised to the lies told us for so long that every further step we take is a comedy. Our institutions are built on these lies which is why we cannot fight corruption.”
