Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Babachir Lawal, Dogara, Others Blackmailing Tinubu

Oshiomhole Speaks On Tinubu’s Emergence As APC Presidential Candidate

The Deputy Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Adams Oshiomhole, has berated former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, for leading opposition to the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Recall that former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and Babachir Lawal, had kicked against the decision of the ruling party to field the same faith ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

They also vowed to mobilize northern Christian electorates to vote against the candidate of the ruling party in the 2023 election, Bola Tinubu, over his decision to choose the former governor of Borno, Kashim Shettima, who is also a Muslim, as his running mate.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Oshiomhole accused Lawal and Dogara of trying to blackmail Tinubu and Shettima.

The former Edo State Governor wondered why Lawal, Dogara, and others against the Muslim-Muslim ticket did not back a Christian in the APC presidential primary.

While describing the criticisms against the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket as unfortunate, he said Nigeria’s problems are bigger than religious disagreements.

Oshiomhole: “Those leading the campaign in the APC family – if they were such believers in Christianity – had the opportunity to canvass for votes for one of the Christian candidates.

“But they were on record as having led the campaign on the side of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, knowing very well that he is a Muslim.”

According to the former APC chairman, Nigerians should be discussing what any of the presidential candidates will do differently, not what will a Christian or Muslim do.

“I don’t think they bothered to show the evidence and yet we have not just a Christian Vice-President, we have a pastor, a senior advocate,” Oshiomhole said.
