Marrying A 13-Year-Old Girl Is Not Wrong – Says APC Presidential Aspirant, Yerima

Just In: Yerima Joins 2023 Presidential Race, Informs Buhari

2023 All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Ahmad Yerima, says he has done no wrong marrying a minor years ago.

Naija News recalls that the former Zamfara State Governor caused stirs on and off the internet in 2009 when he dolled out a sum of $100,000 to marry a 13-year-old Egyptian teenager.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, May 10, the presidential hopeful said no law in Nigeria dictates how and when one should get married.

Yerima who was responding to his questions on Child Marriage during the interview said he would have been arraigned if he had done any wrong by marrying the Egyptian teenager.

He reiterated that his religious belief does not forbid him from marrying a girl in her 13th birth year.

There is no law in Nigeria that determines when and how you get married. Muslims have Sharia, the Christians I don’t know what their doctrines say”, Yerima said.

The politician added: “If I had done anything wrong, I would have been tried in court. NAPTIP wanted to try the case and they dropped the matter because I didn’t do anything wrong.

“Whatever you are doing, if you are ignorant of the law, then you are bound to have problems. Once you do anything according to law, you don’t have a problem in any society,” he said.

Yerima who is vying for the nation’s number one political position under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had said earlier that his political support base is why he knows that he could win the 2023 general election.

The former lawmaker said he has over 15 million registered supporters that will cast their votes to make him the next leader after President Muhammadu Buhari.

He recalled that previous presidential elections were won by not more than 15 to 16 million votes.
