Manchester United lose 1-3 to Liverpool in legends game

The game between the former players of both sides took place at Old Trafford in Manchester.

United: Van der Gouw, Neville (c), Johnsen, Stam, Evra, Poborsky, Valencia, Butt, Blomqvist, Saha, Berbatov.

Subs used: Fortune, Webber, Pilkington, O’Shea, Silvestre, Brown.

Liverpool: Dudek, Kvarme, Xavier, Aurelio, Carragher (c), Pennant, Le Tallec, Diao, Rodriguez, Downing, Voronin.

Subs used: Garcia, Benayoun, Kuyt, Sinama-Pongolle, Wright, Sissoko, Enrique, Vignal, Gonzalez.

Manchester United featured legends such as Gary Neville, Patrice Evra to name a few while Liverpool were without Steven Gerrard.

The first half ended without a goal as both sides struggled to find rhythm with chances wasted.

Liverpool would however break the deadlock in the 47th minute through Luiz Garcia.

The lead did not last long for Liverpool, as Manchester United found an equalizer when Dimitar Berbatov converted from the penalty spot.

Mark Gonzalez would put Liverpool back in front in the 62nd minute. Manchester United committed players forward for the rest of the game.

Gonzalez grabbed a second in the 91st minute as Liverpool recorded a comfortable 1-3 victory against Manchester United.

Manchester United posted a statement about the legends of the north game on their official Instagram handle.

The message said, “With your support, the @ManchesterUnitedFoundation has raised over £1.3 MILLION from our #LegendsOfTheNorth game!

“We can’t thank you enough; your genorosity is extremely humbling and will make an incredible difference.”

Manchester United fans will now travel to face Liverpool legends at Anfield in the return leg scheduled to take place in September.
