World Cup manager Luis Enrique has spoken out on his team’s World Cup stalemate with Germany, expressing mixed sentiments about the outcome.

The Group E match was fiercely contested, with huge stakes. Spain dominated possession and had their tails up following a blistering start to their campaign in Qatar, but they ran into a resurgent Germany squad.

After nearly going behind in the first half, Spain took the lead through substitute Alvaro Morata after an hour. They continued to dominate Germany, but a late stream of replacements restored Hansi Flick’s side’s lead.

Like Morata, Germany’s replacement attacker Niclas Fullkrug equalized with seven minutes remaining, snatching them a point that might be essential to their chances of reaching the round of 16.

Speaking after the game to the press, Enrique admitted: “It’s a strange feeling when you have the chance to win the game against Germany and you lose it in the last few minutes.”

But, despite being conflicted about the result and suggesting his side should’ve seen out the victory, he remained positive: “You have to think that we are in the lead after two (match)days.”

La Roja gains a point, increasing their lead over Germany and the rest of Group E to four points.

By defeating Japan on Thursday, Spain will now be able to aid Germany in leaving the group.
