Lucas Moura admits he is ‘playing through pain’ to help Tottenham’s injury crisis

Tottenham forward Lucas Moura has confessed he is playing through pain in order to help his club through their current injury crisis.

Spurs have already lost Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, while Son Heung-min is set for surgery on a fractured eye socket picked up during the midweek victory over Marseille.

Lucas has only just returned from his own injury, having suffered a calf issue earlier in the season. He is yet to start a Premier League game but has started the last two in the Champions League, but the Brazilian admitted that was more out of necessity.

“I’m happy because I’m back and I can help the team,” he said (via the Daily Mail). “It’s difficult to get my best form in just a few games but, step by step, I will get there.

“It’s my tendon in the heel. I keep doing the treatment to play and I can play with the pain, that I can manage. The most important thing is for me to be on the pitch, doing what I love to do. Sometimes it’s normal for a football player because it’s difficult to play without any pain. We are used to playing with injuries.”

Lucas and Bryan Gil flanked Harry Kane against Marseille and manager Antonio Conte may opt to deploy the same lineup on Sunday when Spurs host Liverpool.

Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon, both more wing-backs these days, are also options for Conte to consider.
